Help For Those New to Soccer

The information on this page deals with the details of registration and starting soccer with Wellington Soccer Association.  We also suggest reading First-Time Soccer Families for more information on what to expect when starting out.  If, after reading through this documentation, you still have questions, we would be happy to help!  Just send an email to wellingtonsoccer176@gmail.com.

REGISTRATION

WSA uses the Demosphere system for registration.  You will need to have an account in this system to register your child to play.  You will need to create a family account (your parent account) and then add your children.  For each child, you will need to upload a current photograph (we only need a headshot) and a copy of their birth certificate.  Sometimes photos/scans taken with newer smartphones will result in files that are too large to upload to our system.  A smaller file size is preferred.  Demosphere will automatically place your child into the appropriate age group.  Groups are based on birth year, not school grade.  If you have any questions about this process, please email our registrar at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

REGISTRATION FEES

Registration fees are based upon the age level that you child is playing.  Fees will be shown and charged during the secure registration process.  WSA is assessed a fee for each team that we roster within the league.  We must also pay a fee for each player registered to play in the league.  Fees paid to the league cover administrative fees to ensure players are rostered on the appropriate age-level team as well as insurance costs.  The registration fees that you pay to us are used to pay those league fees as well as ref fees, coach background checks, coach training, tournament fees, equipment purchases, advertising, team parties, and other various expenses.

PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FEES DO NOT COVER UNIFORM COSTS FOR U9-U15 PLAYERS.

WHEN IS SOCCER SEASON?

Soccer has both a Fall and Spring season.  Fall season usually begins with practices in early August and games run through late October.  Spring season practices usually start in early/mid-April and games usually run through early June.  Spring 2022 is going to be a different format for U9 and older kids, as described on our homepage.

WHEN ARE PRACTICES AND GAMES?

All WSA teams typically practice two weeknights each week.  Practice times are not determined until after teams are rostered.  Practice days and times are determined based upon field availability and coach preference.  Some coaches may add additional practices as needed.

Teams from U7-U15 will play eight games per season.  Most teams are in the Lorain County Soccer League, which schedules most games on Saturdays.  There will usually be at least one weeknight game.  Other weeknight games may be scheduled as needed for makeup dates.

VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME!

Wellington Soccer Association is almost entirely volunteer-driven, from coaches to the Executive Board.  We would greatly appreciate any help that you can give us!  WSA is not a large organization, but there is plenty to do!  Each season, we need coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, and help in our concession stand.  We also have four board positions and numerous committees that operate on longer terms.  Please let us know if you would be able to help us.
